Ondems Media Server is a highly scalable VoD server that is intended to be sold as a software-only package. The Media Server runs on any non-customized (recent) Linux distribution.

Ondems Media Server uses RTSP, SDP, RTP and H.222 protocols, thus being compatible to all major IP STB manufacturers. The Media Server is able to emulate major VoD servers, so there is no need to make any change to Set-Top Boxes.

The Media Server supports the following commands: Play, Pause, Stop, FF, FR. It can stream to up to 20 clients simultaneously (4 Mbits/s MPEG-2 TS) from a normal PC and to up to 40 clients simultaneously from a single, ATA hard-disk (2 Fast Ethernet cards or Gigabit Ethernet required). The Ondems Media Server is the ideal candidate for VoD deployments in Hospitality markets, where small-capacity VoD servers are required.

The Ondems Media Server can also be used as a streaming server (output to ASI, ATM) for streaming Single Program or Multi Program Transport Streams. This configuration can be used to emulate a DVB Satellite or Terrestrial receiver in places where the full receiving configuration is not available (such as exhibitions). Basic price (without customizations) for a streaming server is 900 euros for a software license. The price includes configuration and installation support. Estimated cost of the required hardware is 500-1000 euros + the cost of the ASI or ATM interface. A testing license is available on request.

The Ondems Media Server may be purchased for Hospitality markets at a price of 100 euros for each simultaneous stream (minimum 5 streams/clients). Thus, a license to stream to 9 clients simultaneously costs 900 euros. The estimated cost of the hardware necessary for such a server is 500-800 euros. A testing license is available on request.
